Also there were lots of horse flies (especially on the rail trail) when I was there, they didn't go for me but loved my dog. Not a trail for the faint of heart, and due to the isolation you should carry the basics to stay overnight even if not planning to. This junction of the Granite Ridge and Elkhorn Creek trails is about 0.25 mile west of a large 8,700 ft elevation granite outcropping just north of the Granite Ridge Trail. The trail winds its way for a distance of 9.3 km along the granite ridge, traversing areas of old growth hemlock, ascending a number of lookoffs overlooking the Musquodoboit River Valley and Granite uplands beyond and crossing "Meadow Brook" at 7.0 km. A number of tee decks are perched on the top of these granite ridges, providing long-range vistas over forest, without a road to be seen or heard. Follow the Gibraltar Rock Loop trail connector upward and at the Gibraltar Junction, veer right onto the North Granite Ridge trail. It's a tough trail due to it's length and also the 7km hike back to the car on the Musquodoboit Trailway is a bit of a slog. These trails are managed and maintained by volunteers with the Musquodoboit Trailway Association (conrtibute by becoming a member).
