Almost a year ago, a headphone pal loaned me the Zach Mehrbach designed ZMF Auteur LTD headphones. Wowza! As I mentioned earlier, the Vérité Closed includes Auteur Pads and Universe Pads. The only thing I noticed, casually, was how relaxed and unbelievably transparent they were. Bass is better, treble is better (HD's sounded a bit muffled compared to the ZMF's) and I think the soundstage is better. I have had home demos with the Eikon (similar driver to Auteur) and Verite and I was not impressed. Review written by Ian Dunmore (@Torq) Introduction. Nothing about their sound attracted my attention. The ZMF Vérité is Zach Mehrbach’s latest open-back dynamic-driver headphone offering, and is the current flagship in ZMF’s range. They are all too bulky to use on the move so I could not care less how they look when listening at home. The Verite Closed is the “most closed” design that ZMF has ever brought to market. ZMF owner Zach Mehrbach researched the technology originally when he launched his first dynamic driver headphones, Atticus and Eikon in 2016. Really. The ZMF Atticus’ leakage is quite good, I have to turn my Magni 3 to 3 o’clock before it really starts to leak out. Eikon measurements for reference: The Audiophiliac picks the best headphones, from $26 to $6,000. Build is not really a category that deserves much time. Review written by Ian Dunmore (@Torq) Introduction The ZMF Vérité is Zach Mehrbach’s latest open-back dynamic-driver headphone offering, and is the current flagship in ZMF’s range. I can’t speak for the Verite Closed, but I can for the Atticus. I will copy my blurb about ZMF Headphones from my Verite review, as nothing has changed on that front. (Which is way too loud to begin with for most songs) As for hearing others, good luck if you have anything playing at a low to reasonable volume. He said, "Herb, see if you like these." The new Verite Closed shares the same driver as the Verite open-back headphones. The ZMF Verite is the 5th design created entirely in house (his earlier planar designs were extensive modifications using the Fostex T50rp driver). The ZMF Eikon is the flagship dynamic driver wood headphone from Zach Merbach and is priced at $1399. Vérité vs. ZMF Aeolus (Universe pads): The Vérité and Aeolus are certainly not in the same price category, but given that the release of two new ZMF headphones invites comparison, and that I have the Aeolus in for review as well, let’s get into it. Running the Auteur vs. Senn HD650 on the Mainline tonight. ZMF Headphones is a small headphone company based out of Chicago Illinois. Auteur is winning. Disclaimer: The ZMF Eikon sent to us is a sample in exchange for our honest opinion. Today we are talking about another great pair of headphones from ZMF, the Eikon. I took them home and right away thought, Wow, these headphones really disappear! We thank ZMF headphones for this opportunity. The best of the best in-, on-, and over-the-ear headphones according to Steve Guttenberg, the Audiophiliac. ZMF has a whole slew of pads available for their headphones, and they all offer a unique experience that allows users to really customize and hone-in on the sound they want from their ZMF headphones. ZMF headphones are too expensive unless you care about the fancy wood and aesthetics. ZMF’s other closed variants are still considered vented models, so the new Verite Closed more than lives up to its distinct designation in both name and design. The owner of ZMF headphones, Zach Mehrbach, is…a really nice guy. HD650 sounded very good - many have verified it's a good mix with the Mainline. The Verite uses an entirely new driver made from beryllium, not seen in any of Zachs past headphones.
